Brother iPrint & Scan mobile app makes it easy to send a document or photo printer from iOS or Android phone or tablet on the same wireless network. Windows printing and scanning interface both worked fine, does not provide you with a variety of options overcomplicated or rob you of useful features. MFP also comes with a copy of PaperPort 12 SE, which gives you a variety of document management and OCR tool to help manage your scan. Brother printer has a weakness in the scanning. The 1,200 x 2.400dpi CIS scanners are very poorly in capturing the dark images. In our test scan, low-contrast dark areas are mixed with each other. High contrast reproduction is also a bit off : we look smudged edges where the light and dark areas meet. On the plus side, the bright primary colors and natural tones of our test photos that accurately reproduced. However, the biggest problem with the DCP9020CDW as business scanner that scans text is 8pt have the edge blur even at 300dpi. Scan speeds at least fairly quickly, with a 1200 dpi scan picture taking under one minute and 300dpi A4 scan document took 18 years.
The quality of the copy also leaves something to be desired, with a color copy of a strange-looking lightweight and rugged, with a fuzzy, grainy text. Text in mono copy bit sharper, but the contrast in mono reproduction of color images is poor, giving them the appearance of turbid even when we use the adjusted settings available through the MFP touchscreen interface. One-sheet color and mono copies both took 17s, while 10 pages fed through the ADF copied in 48s.
If the copy is not all we would have hoped for, we have a few complaints about the print quality of the overall MFP. Color cast is not so shiny as those from several laser devices, such as the Xerox WorkCentre 6605DN, but we could not fault reproduction DCP-9020CDW about our color business documents. Illustration looks fantastic, with accurate color and excellent shading. Text is sharp and clear, but we saw some jagged edges on challenging us 8pt serif font. Print photos, meanwhile, looks surprisingly natural and has excellent contrast.
We really liked the look of our professional color printing duplex, but it appears painfully slow. Ten pages in five pieces take 3m 30s, which is just below 3 ppm. Selecting single-sided printing and the speed to be a bit more reasonable, with a print speed of 15.2ppm mono and color print speed of 7.9ppm. It was still very slow with a standard laser or LED printer, though. Most of the delay was caused by the processing time long before the MFP started printing.
